It is a gesture of resistance for the Palestinians who must go to work, exit and leave their cities and try to live their lives in spite of the innumerable obstacles they face.

Israeli checkpoint: Huwara (ICRC)
These simple workers from Bethlehem and the surrounding villages wait for 4 hours in the morning and many more hours during the day at the checkpoint of Gilo (the name of one of the illegal settlements surrounding and strangling Bethlehem). They wait in the hope that the Israeli soldiers condescend to grant them permission to go to Jerusalem and to arrive in time on their places of work.
Here you can see the Gilo checkpoint at the exit in Bethlehem.

These filmed images of treatment by Israeli soldiers, show better than words, that every day, the Palestinians are treated like cattle at over 550 permanent military stations, like that of Gilo, which paralyses their country. At the same time, these extraordinarily patient people - portrayed as a threat by Israel - simply seek to move from one city to another in order to work to survive and make a living for their families.
These images illustrate the cruelty of an occupying state, protected by the great powers and the principal Jewish organizations around the world. They all protect the cruelty of this colonial State of Israel.
This treatment is unworthy of any state, no matter which state it is.
In what other country has an army subjected, for so long, an occupied people to as many persecutions and humiliations ? These Palestinians have the right to live legitimately in this land.
Pretending that this state, said to be a ’democratic’ one is a huge injustice. It is a shame which we should never cease denouncing.
