Europeans undermine human rights in Palestine
Sattar Kassem: Complaint against the Palestinian Judiciary
The following letter has been sent to the European Commission on Human Rights. The European Union has been extending financial aid to the Palestinian Authority for the sake of enhancing Human rights and elevating the judiciary. My experience tells that the Europeans are either unconcerned or cooperating with the Authority to undermine human rights. Each time I write to the Europeans, they don’t respond. - Sattar Kassem

The European commission on Human rights

From: Abdul Sattar Kassem

Subject: complaint against the Palestinian Judiciary

I passed to you my complaints against Mr. Mahdi Maraqa, who is a recruit in the Palestinian intelligence for threatening me and damaging my property. I filed a complaint against him to the Palestinian police in Nablus. But I ended in jail for what they call distorting his image. For more than a year, I have been attending court sessions for this case although the attorney general has not been able to promote any evidence against me.

I was also detained for a couple of days for an alleged distortion of the image of a person who was found guilty for shooting at a prominent clergy in Nablus. The allegation has to do with a phone interview with al-Aqsa TV. Although the interview is published, it has been there on the internet, and I handed a written copy and a CD to the judge, I have been attending court sessions for more than a year.

I know that the European Union is spending money for elevating the Palestinian judiciary, but my experience with you tells something different. You took no action in the past concerning the attacks on my property. I hope you will do something this time.

With regards.
